Alterations Agreement

Very complex or costly alterations will require an alterations Agreement to ensure that all details are understood by both parties.

A deposit of $____________________ (__________% of estimate) is required at time of agreement to do work.  If work does not exceed the amount of deposit, the balance will be refunded at time of pickup. If cost of work exceeds the amount of the deposit, full balance is due to The Sewing Shop at time of pickup.

It is understood that alterations to formalwear such as a wedding gown, are labor intensive, and a firm quote cannot be provided.  Alterations are billed by the hour, in 15-minute intervals. 

Additional work requested after agreement is signed will be estimated separately.

Alterations requested to an already completed garment will be billed as new alterations.  This could be due to, but is not limited to:

·         Weight loss or gain.

·         Change in your bra style

·         Change in the height of shoes

·         Change in pregnancy or breastfeeding status

·         Liposuction or augmentation

The Sewing Shop makes every effort to avoid damaging your garment.  We cannot be responsible for damage that occurred during manufacturing, if your garment was previously altered by someone else, or if it is composed of worn vintage fabrics. All garments must be new/never worn or freshly laundered/dry cleaned before acceptance by The Sewing Shop.

Embellished garments (beads, sequins, appliqued lace), may require removal and later replacement of features that impede the sewing path (usually 1/2”-1” on either side of a seam). It may be necessary to modify the placement and density of embellishments, depending on the alterations. There is a risk when letting out a seam that the old needle marks will not “heal” and will be visible after the alteration.  Letting out a seam with embellishments may require rearranging beads, lace, etc. that may not be identical to the original.

The Sewing Shop agrees to perform the work described above in a professional manner that meets or exceeds industry standards, and to meet the interim fitting and completion dates.  For bustling of wedding gowns, we will instruct your designated person(s) and provide a written procedure. Areas of the garment worked on by The Sewing Shop will be pressed, but we do not have the necessary equipment to steam or press the entire garment.
